St Mary’s Court welcomes its first resident

24 November 2008

St Mary’s Court, the newest addition to The Old Deanery Care Village in Bocking near Braintree, today officially welcomed it’s first resident.

St Mary’s, which officially opened on Monday 24th November 2008, provides person-centred care for people with memory impairments and dementia.

With an emphasis on activities and quality of life, St Mary’s Court is a safe, secure and stimulating environment for all of its residents.

Bernard Mawoyo, Registered Manager said “Moving into a care home is a big decision and a significant life change. Not just for the person with dementia but for their family and friends.

People with dementia often move into care homes because they can no longer live at home and may well move with a sense of loss or sadness.

St Mary’s care staff provide full support and assistance to family and friends, as well as to residents, which helps everyone cope when a loved one moves into care”.

St Mary’s prides itself on its unique approach to care.

Person-centred care recognises that every body is different, with different needs according to their individual personality, past life experiences, physical and mental health.

This care focuses on the individual with dementia rather than managing the symptoms of dementia.

Every member of staff at St Mary’s Court is fully trained in person-centred care and supported in their work by a team who put the concept into practice every single day.

St Mary’s has an observable commitment to person–centred care and makes this commitment clear to all residents, family and friends.

Bernard Mawoyo says “We are delighted after months and months of hard work and construction, to finally welcome our first resident. Our new purpose built memory impairment facility is the newest and most advanced in the UK. We’re sure all of our residents will benefit from our full range of facilities and be happy here for many years to come”.
