Royal College Nursing - Education and Training
17 May 2011
Healthcare is constantly developing, technology improving and the needs of the resident changing. It is necessary for staff to keep up to date with healthcare issues and practice. All trained nurses must maintain their registration by meeting the post-registration education and practice (PREP) standards set by their regulatory body, the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Senior carers and carers are included as valued members of the nursing family and use a framework of knowledge, skills and occupational standards to demonstrate competence. Good nursing is the cornerstone of excellence of the care for the resident and their family. The care that is given at St Mary’s and the Old Deanery is aimed at improving outcomes for the resident, their families and the wider care village community whilst promoting health and well being. With this in mind I have been in discussion with the Royal College of Nursing and am pleased to announce that St Mary’s and the Old Deanery have signed up to a continuing education and personal/professional development programme. Not only will this programme maintain and improve the staff member’s professional competence, but also it will improve the service that we can offer the resident through informed practice. I will be leading this initiative for local independent care homes for the Royal College of Nursing, and with the help of the Royal College of Nursing I will be able to offer training service to other care homes here at the Old Deanery Care Village.
